With growing numbers of CBT practitioners and the advent of increasing guidelines for competent supervision, the need for considered, consistent and high-level supervision across clinical services has become a CBT necessity. This has been highlighted by the BABCP’s move towards accreditation of CBT supervisors.
Quite rightly, there is now recognition within the BABCP that CBT supervisors should receive high quality training and supervision – yet there remains relatively little to guide us on the training and supervision of supervisors. Over the past 25 years, OCTC has been a leader in the field of CBT supervisor training and has developed an approach and an evaluation tool for supervisors of CBT supervision.
This workshop offers an opportunity to explore the implications of Supervision of Supervision (SoS) and to become familiar with OCTC’s Supervisor Competency Scale (SCS).
Participants will be able to review:
· The needs of supervisors
· The goals of SoS;
· The means of achieving these goals and enhancing supervision skills in others;
· Ways of assessing and evaluating supervision skills, both formative and summative.
There will be opportunities to practice supervision of supervision within the workshop, both by critically viewing a supervision recording using the SCS and by being engaged in live exercises.
It is assumed that attendees are practiced in CBT, have experience in supervising other mental health therapists and will be able to draw on their own experiences of being a supervisor.
