Glitches, particularly interpersonal ones, can arise in CBT supervision and training. This workshop focuses on ways to resolve such ruptures by using familiar CBT strategies including formulation and problem solving. The workshop also introduces Safran & Segal’s approach to resolving interpersonal ruptures through identifying the dilemma to be resolved in a collaborative, Socratic and respectful way.
The workshop will cover:
- working with and within supervisory and training alliances: a brief refresher
- monitoring and identifying ruptures
- formulating ruptures using an interpersonal framework
- taking a pragmatic approach: do not make it more complicated than it is
- clarifying the supervisor or trainer dilemma
- sharing the dilemma and engaging in collaborative resolution
- reviewing contracts
The day will comprise refresher information on optimising dissemination practice, together with specific teaching on the Safran & Segal approach, followed by attendee practice in resolving dissemination ruptures. For these exercises, attendees should prepare a brief case summary of a situation where an interpersonal issue is impeding supervision and/or training.
Important: only bring dissemination material if your supervisee or trainee has given permission for you to share information relating to their supervision or training.
