This is a one-day workshop for supervisors and trainers. It complements the one-day workshop CBT supervision: what it is and how we can do it well.
CBT therapists often find themselves asked to step into the role of supervisor and/or trainer. This workshop helps CBT clinicians do just that: become confident and effective CBT disseminators.
Attendees will learn ways to enhance learning in their supervisees and trainees. The workshop will address improving retention for both knowledge and skill-based learning. It comprises a refresher in memory and learning, then builds on this by reviewing ways to improve engagement and recall in CBT supervisees and trainees. Optimal use of didactic and Socratic teaching will be reviewed, as will the merits of in-session and between-session experiential learning and stress management.
Throughout, we adopt an approach that recognises the centrality of patient welfare, but we also consider the impact of CBT dissemination beyond the patient or indeed the supervisee and trainee. We keep in mind the broader benefits that can be achieved through enhanced learning in CBT.
