Whether the training modality is didactic, Socratic, observed or experiential, learning is enhanced through the use of well-considered feedback. This workshop considers how best to share and elicit feedback to achieve the overarching supervision goals of normative, restorative, and formative practice. It will address a broad range of feedback opportunities, from brief commentary during a session to formal evaluation using assessments such as the Assessment of Core CBT Skills (ACCS).
The workshop will address:
- relevant feedback: what, why and when
- formative and summative feedback
- feedback methods: for example, written, face-to-face, brief, or detailed
- making feedback engaging and meaningful
- making feedback dynamic and part of active learning
- eliciting feedback
The afternoon will include a Practice of Supervision (PoS) session, where attendees will receive brief supervision of a real clinical presentation. This will provide an opportunity for the supervisor-in-practice to consider what feedback would benefit the supervisee and for the supervisor to then receive feedback on their supervisory practice. Please come prepared with a very brief case summary and a supervision question.
Important: Only bring case material if your patient has given permission for you to receive supervision relating to their case. As supervision time is limited, please ensure your supervision issue is relatively uncomplicated.
