So, you want to train others in CBT? Perhaps you have been asked by your department or Trust, or delivering training has been recognised in your PDR; maybe you were inspired by your own training experience and want to replicate it; perhaps it was awful and you want to help others avoid the same experience. Regardless of your motivations, this workshop will help you to make your next training event richer, more memorable, more rewarding and, well, better.
Inspiring trainers can often seem to be “born” to it. However, as is so often the case, once you “lift the hood”, and see what those inspiring trainers are doing differently, and why, you too can begin to deliver inspiring training. There is much more to it than one might think.
The workshop draws on ideas from management development, education and training as a basis for considering what cognitive behavioural therapy training should consist of, and how trainers can develop an active learning environment that mirrors the collaborative and action-oriented style of CBT.
Not only that, but learning how to improve learning will likely develop your effectiveness in training, supervision, and therapy. Even better, in learning to create inspiring workshops, a pleasant side-effect is that your interaction with the content of your workshop (whatever that may be) will increase your own understanding.
By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- formulate and apply learning objectives to the development of a training event
- apply a three-dimensional model of meetings to the content, content and process of training
- identify how cognitive therapy informs training and supervision
- use the Kolb-Lewin Learning Circle to maximise experiential learning and retention
- select from a range of different teaching methods
There will be lots of experiential learning opportunities within the course and, although not essential, your experience will be enhanced if you bring along ideas for training events that you are planning or would like to deliver.
