Understandably, people experiencing psychosis are not always help seeking. This can be for many reasons, including because their experiences have been invalidated, or they see little benefit in how psychological support can help with a ‘real’ problem. There is an increasing evidence base for CBTp, yet we cannot deliver this if the person isn’t in the session with us. The first job of being effective at offering CBT for psychosis is getting someone engaged enough to agree to meet with us for therapy.

This 1-hour workshop is designed to help you make an appealing offer of therapy to service users. It will help you feel confident you are doing the best you can to increase the likelihood that an offer of CBTp is accepted so we can support people on their recovery journey.

This workshop is aimed at therapists already delivering CBTp and working within a psychosis pathway.

The objectives of the workshop are;

  • To explore what service users’ want from CBTp and how to overcome barriers to engagement at this point in therapy
  • To develop initial discussions with service users about CBTp and plan how to use options and increase hope
  • How to skilfully make an offer of CBTp
  • How to inform team colleagues about CBTp and what we can do so we can increase referrals to therapy
