Whilst many of us work with people given a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and there is an increasing focus in some services on working psychologically with mood instability, our core training often provides us with little teaching and guidance on this work.
Delivered by renowned industry expert Rachel Manser who shares her invaluable insights and strategies, this workshop aims to build your knowledge and confidence to engage clients with mood swings, to understand and work effectively with mood swings and some of the associated difficulties.
Key learning objectives:
• Learn key aspects of CBT (and CBT based) models of bipolar disorder and draw upon these to formulate client’s difficulties
• Overcome common barriers to engagement with therapy
• Learn the value of and how to use mood monitoring
• Be able to use both behavioural and cognitive strategies to stabilise mood
• Manage increased risk and impulsivity
Clinical skills practice will include:
• Experiential use of mood monitoring
• Development of idiosyncratic formulations drawing upon CBT models of bipolar disorder
• Behavioural regulation of low and high moods
• Consideration of when and how to intervene with key cognitions
Whilst the focus of the workshop is on bipolar disorder, there is significant overlap with people given an EUPD diagnosis and much of what is focused on will be relevant to both.
