IMPROVING SUPERVISION SKILLS:
COMMON ISSUES, PROBLEMS AND COMPLEXITIES IN PRACTICE
Helen Kennerley & Joy McGuire
26th & 27th May 2010
Cognitive therapy supervision can be challenging even for the seasoned supervisor and this workshop aims to help supervisors prepare for some of the common issues and problems that can arise. It builds on the basic principles explored in the ‘Essential Skills’ workshop and further develops process issues and making the most of the supervisory alliance.
Topics covered include:
• Attending to learning styles and needs
• Attending to parallel processes
• Formulating problems in the supervisory alliance and dealing with ‘ruptures’
• Evaluation of supervision and self-reflection
• Using supervision in differing formats: e.g. group supervision, remote supervision.
A variety of interactive methods will be used throughout, including role play, discussion and small group practicals. There will some opportunity for participants to work with their own experiences, applying ideas developed in the workshop.
Clinical material will be used throughout to illustrate teaching points.
