SEEKING THE HEART OF MINDFULNESS:
A SEVEN-DAY SILENT RETREAT
John Peacock & Catherine McGee
8th – 15th May 2010
Participating in an extended silent retreat is an invaluable way of deepening the personal practice of mindfulness meditation, and is viewed as an indispensable step to becoming an instructor in mindfulness-based approaches, including Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
This year, for the first time, OCTC is hosting a 7-day silent retreat, to be held in a tranquil rural setting and led by two of the UK’s most experienced and best known meditation teachers. The retreat represents an opportunity for practitioners with an established meditation practice who wish to deepen their personal experience of mindfulness meditation, and to explore its roots in the Buddhist tradition, as a foundation for teaching others.
Seeking the Heart of Mindfulness
The Buddha stated that the four ways of establishing mindfulness through the contemplation of the body, feelings, mind, and mind objects is a direct way for human beings to understand and to take control of their lives.
In this silent retreat, we shall engage in a range of practices that are based on the Buddha’s discourse on the establishment of mindfulness (the ‘Satipatthana Sutta’). The retreat will include meditation practice, teaching, discussion, and one-to-one interviews.
