On Line supervision - invaluable service?
Hi. Since February 2008 when our first supervision only subscribers came on board we have only had one person cancel and that was for technology reasons. We are just introducing a supervision only subscription and now have several of our existing subscribers either booking or looking to book second sessions a month. |

Hi, I have a simple but important question. By doing the online training, would I gain any formal qualifications? Best wishes, Shamash |

Hi Shamash To your simple question I have a longer response The on line training provides support to qualifications and to any continuing professional development from which we added on line supervision some 15 months ago. - Formal qualifications usually involve a Post Graduate Certificate / Diploma / MSc, run in various places around the country, including of course, ours! See BABCP website at http://www.babcp.com/cbt-training/ for info about BABCP accreditation, appropriate training etc. If you are interested in IAPT - IAPT training cannot be accessed just as a training; it is only available to people in IAPT jobs. So to do either High or Low Intensity training, you need to apply for and be employed in an IAPT service post. These are advertised on the NHS jobs website. It may be too late for next wave (courses usually start in autumn) but worth looking; also some places may have an intake in April, so worth looking out around Xmas / New Year for another wave of adverts I trust that answers your question on this topic and perhaps some you've posted within other topics. Best regards Richard |

Hi, I'm generally happy about the idea of online supervision, although there are always pitfalls in computer based non verbal communication. However, I am also an advocate of supervision being done within normal working hours ( whatever that might be for the individua) and these days I am very certain about not taking work home!! One other important aspect of supervision is the reflective element, particularly for Low Intensity workers who are subjected to the "conveyor belt of misery" during a shift on the telephone initial assessment calls. We need somewhere constructive to offload/debrief at the end of a working day but currently cannot possible find time for this. Is this a propsed element of online supervision and does anybody feel that a website forum could perhaps facilitate this? Joe |

Hi Joe, Just a quicky - online supervision provided by OCTC is very verbal indeed. We use a dedicated conference software which allows you not only to a proper video chat with supervisors (they all use headsets and webcams) but also it is possible to share documents, presentations, all computer applications really. There is even a virtual whiteboard, where multiple users can annotate, draw, write, use pointers. The only pitfall I can think of are technical limitations (bandwidth problems for instance, we’ve been struggling with it because it works very slow in the Trust, however the connection will be prioritised from our end, so it should help a lot) and intermittent technology malfunctions. It is also provided withing the working hours. Adrian |
